Haymarket Haven: A Transformative Remodeling Project by Shea Studio Interiors

In 2015, Create featured an exceptional kitchen and bath transformation in the Dominion Valley Hunt development in Haymarket, VA, led by the talented June Shea of Shea Studio Interiors. Longtime Burke residents, John and Mary Eichelberger, enlisted Shea’s expertise to redesign their new home in the 50-plus section with the vision of aging in place comfortably.

The Eichelbergers sought a contemporary and low-maintenance design that would replace their former traditional home. With Shea’s guidance, they transformed the space into a functional and stylish haven that perfectly suits their lifestyle.

Key Highlights of the Project:

  • Personalized Design: Mary and John’s inspiration came from magazine clippings and HOUZZ photos, particularly drawn to the contrast of light cabinets against dark floors. Shea turned these ideas into a cohesive and modern color scheme.
  • Reimagined Layout: The project included a significant layout change, with the fireplace being relocated to create a more conversational family room area and provide additional wall space in the dining area. This allowed for a better flow between rooms, particularly with a newly defined kitchen space featuring a smaller island for improved accessibility.
  • Low-Maintenance Materials: The kitchen was designed with durability in mind, featuring quartz countertops, porcelain tile backsplash, and polyester tweed fabric for the stools. A composite SilGranite sink from Blanco was chosen to seamlessly blend with the countertop, while hidden under-cabinet lighting and outlets maintained the clean aesthetic.
  • Enhanced Functionality: The master bathroom was redesigned to include a large shower with a built-in bench, future-proofed with blocking for grab bars. Shea also ensured that the home’s flooring had no transitions, reducing tripping hazards and enhancing accessibility.
  • Thoughtful Details: Shea incorporated modern pendants made of silver and recycled glass, and used epoxy-based grout to minimize maintenance needs. The design successfully merged beauty with practicality, resulting in a contemporary home that the Eichelbergers can enjoy for many years.

This project is a testament to Shea Studio Interiors’ ability to create spaces that are not only visually stunning but also perfectly tailored to the needs of their clients.
